Wednesday Hodgepodge - It May be Spring!

Another Wednesday, another Hodgepodge. I wasn't able to participate last week due to the birth of our GRANDDAUGHTER! Thankful to God for a sweet new blessing in our lives.

Thanks to Joyce for hosting. Be sure to visit her by clicking on the button.

1. How many times in your life have you moved house?

I lived in four houses as a child, then to college, and then we got married. In our almost 30 years of marriage, we have lived in 3 homes.
This is a picture of our first apartment in Married Student Housing at Purdue. That's my grandmother, "Mamaw" helping us move in. The funny story is of the day we moved out when Mamaw and my mom dropped clothes, shoes, towels, and other non breakables from the second story balcony into Jim's pickup truck. Much easier than lugging everything down the stairs. They thought they were so clever! I wasn't so sure. :)

We moved into this house in West Lafayette next (1982-84). No, we didn't live here with 4 kids. This picture was taken in May 1990 when we stopped to show the kids where we lived when David was a baby.

This is the house that Jim's grandparents built in 1949. Jim's parents moved to this house before Jim was born, in 1959. We moved into the house in June 1984, right before Andrew was born. We added the garage in 1988. Next month will make 27 years that we have lived here. It has been a blessing to live on the farm and raise our family here. This house definitely has stories to tell.

2. What subject would you study if you had a year to devote to it?

Photography.

3. What in this world breaks your heart?

My heart is broken by our precious friends in Haiti. The struggles they face, the burdens they bear, the children who hurt. In the midst of the heartbreak, I also see hope. In their smiles, their hospitality, and their resilience.

4. What is one item that symbolizes the times in which we live? Why?

It has to be the iPhone, or cell phones in general. We can talk, and text, and tweet, and record, and take photos, and capture video, and make dinner, and cure the common cold all in the palm of our hands. Well, almost, anyway.

5. Share a favorite bumper sticker or t-shirt slogan.

I'll go with WHO DAT! Modeled by my beautiful granddaughter Haleigh.

Because of this guy.

6. How do you like your spaghetti?

With meat sauce, and my family prefers heavy on the meat. Except our youngest, who prefers no sauce at all.

7. What is one piece of advice you would give a recent, or soon to be recent, graduate?

Get a J-O-B.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I'll leave you with some photos of my son, Andrew, taking his daughter, Haleigh, for her first ride on his 1935 John Deere Unstyled Model A tractor.

 Happy Wednesday!
